Soft Foods that Aren’t Mashed Potatoes and Applesauce – James Island General Dentist

If you’re recovering from dental surgery, or have been placed on a soft diet for another type of medical issue, we are guessing you are getting pretty tired of mashed potatoes and applesauce. A so-called “bland diet” doesn’t have to be bland, so here are some fun soft-food recipes to spice up your menu.

Cheesy scrambled eggs

Scrambled eggs with goat cheese is a tasty morning meal that’s still soft enough to eat. The goat’s cheese gives it a little extra kick. If you’re not crazy about goat cheese, you could always try gouda or another slightly-more-adventurous-than-cheddar option.

Creamy polenta

Polenta is corn that has been ground smaller than grits. Most classic recipes call for parmesan, cream and/or butter, garlic, and chicken broth. We like this recipe from Alton Brown.

Guacamole

If you love guac so much you could eat it with a spoon, now’s the time to do exactly that. Smush up the avocado so it’s as creamy as you’d like, then mix in your choice of onions, tomatoes, garlic, and lime. Chips would only slow you down.

Oatmeal

A yummy classic, oatmeal can be jazzed up with blueberry, raspberry, peach, or strawberry compote; or classic brown sugar and milk. Nutella banana oatmeal is a great option for chocolate lovers, and peanut butter banana offers rich, yummy comfort.

Baked fruit

Just because you can’t bite into a crunchy apple doesn’t mean you have to miss out on fruit altogether. Apples, pears, peaches become soft and delicious when baked low and slow with a bit of honey.
